Nicole here! So, if you haven't heard, Brady and I are getting married very soon. When thinking about asking my maid of honor and bridesmaids to be in our wedding I wanted to do something awesome for them. I had seen this recipe box on Rifle paper's website and fell in love with the look of it. I decided I wanted to do something similar, but instead a jewelry box with their name painted on the lid of the box. I also wanted to have a note or card inside when then opened it to say "will you be my...?" and filled with their favorite candy and things that only they would love.
For the boxes:
- Boxes from Michael's Craft Store
- Rust-Olium Dark Walnut Wood Stain
- Paint brush
- Sharpie White Oil Paint Markers (fine & thick)
First, I stained the boxes on the inside and outside. I then let them dry, the great thing about the stain I used is that it dries in about an hour. While they were drying I sketched up a few concepts (several haha) on a piece of paper with a pencil for the drawing on lid. Once the boxes were dry, I took the white Sharpie oil paint marker and started drawing the name. After I drew the name I drew the floral design around it. I went back over it a few times so that it would be more white. I also added detail with the finer tip marker. After drawing two on two of the boxes, I actually preferred using the finer tip and used it on the rest of the boxes.
In the boxes:
- Excelsior Moss
- Favorite candy (like Peanut M&M's in a mini glass jar from the dollar bins at Target)
- Tattly Tattoos
- Mini Succulents from Walmart
- Earrings from Urban Outfitters or vintage
- Photo of me & the lovely lady
- Will you be my bridesmaid? Came from Treat Greeting Cards
- Will you be my maid of honor? Came from Rifle Paper Co
I filled the boxes with the Excelsior Moss (brown shredded paper similar to raffia), a Will you be my Maid of Honor/Will you be my bridesmaid? card, and a few of their favorite things. Once filled I wrapped them in brown craft paper and tied twine around them. I just have to say I am so happy I decided to do this. It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it. I'm very excited about the ladies who have said yes and will be in my bridal party.
I'd love to know if you decided to make something similar. :)
